Fifth-grade teacher Sheri Wieczorek talks to a group of students about an assignment based on their reading of a nonfiction book. Teaching with informational texts benefits students in a number of ways: It increases student engagement by allowing for differentiation of content, its unique features provide a structure that supports the development of literacy skills, and it provides support for an inquiry approach to content knowledge.
